Our Local Instructors

Meet our contracted local instructors — experienced pilots from the community who teach with us to provide flexible scheduling, real-world experience, and personal attention.

Not employees of the club, these independent instructors partner with us to deliver high-quality training while maintaining their own professional practices.

Art Griffin

Art Griffin, Flight Instructor

CFI, CFII

Art's fascination with aviation began at a young age, inspired by WWII movies featuring classic airplanes. This early interest led to an introductory flight during his junior year of high school, a pivotal experience that set him on a lifelong path in aviation.

Why I Teach

What I love most about being an instructor is opening a door that few people choose to walk through. It's about sharing flight experiences and continuously learning from my students.

My Teaching Style

My approach is a mixture of formal and informal instruction. For cognitive elements, I adopt more of a lecturer style. When it comes to affective reasoning and developing motor skills, my method shifts to more personalized, one-on-one exchanges.

Advice for New Student Pilots

First, understand the tasks and elements required to obtain your pilot certificate. Then, form a plan by looking at your personal resources and ability to reach the finish line in a reasonable amount of time. Don’t get discouraged. Choose an instructor who can accommodate your ability to learn. If flying is what you really want to do, there is always a way to stay motivated. Expect honesty and integrity from your instructor; he or she will expect the same from you.

Outside the Cockpit

When I'm not flying, I enjoy being involved in my kids’ and grandkids’ lives and staying active in my local community. I also enjoy watching YouTube videos.

Niles Leach

Niles Leach, CFI

CFI, CFII

I am fully qualified to teach a student to earn their PPL, Instrument Rating, Commercial Rating, and MEL rating. I welcome any students interested in becoming a private pilot up to a fully certified commercial pilot.

I have my Commercial Single and Multi-Engine certificates, as well as CFI, CFI-I, and MEI.

Why I Teach

+I started flying because of the dream I've carried since childhood. Originally, I wanted to fly for the Air Force, but fate had other plans. I knew no matter what, I wanted to work inside a plane, and that started my aviation career.
+Being an instructor is one of the most rewarding jobs in aviation because you can directly see your students' growth. Sharing the joy of aviation and the freedom of flying with someone else, and watching their confidence grow with every flight.

My Teaching Style

My teaching style is very ground, (not flying) based, to begin with, as I want to make sure my students have a solid grasp of the fundamentals of flight. From there, safety can be prioritized first, and learning can become fun rather than stressful. In the plane, my goal is to let the student fly 95% of the time while I watch and monitor. Specific feedback will come after we are back on the ground. Overall, I want the teaching to be enjoyable, where my students can reflect on the progress they've made and grow the confidence needed to fly solo.

Advice for New Student Pilots

+My top tip for a new student is to embrace the enormity of knowledge that exists in the world of aviation and not to feel overwhelmed. Most training programs take years, and all the knowledge will come naturally as you fly more hours and immerse yourself in aviation. Stay calm and study on. That, and always take a moment to appreciate the scenery from the sky.

Outside the Cockpit

+I enjoy working out, watching movies, and spending time with my family in my free time.
